– 4th of July Fun Facts -We did NOT actually declare independence on July 4th. The vote was taken 2 days earlier, but published in papers on the 4th. -Americans spend $1 Billion on fireworks every year! -Only 2.5 million people lived in the States in 1776. -Americans will consume 150 Million hotdogs during the holiday. -Thomas Jefferson & John Adams both passed away on July 4th, 1826, the 50th anniversary of our independence. – July 4th was not deemed a federal holiday until 1870, nearly 100 years after our nation was founded. -The average age of the signees of the Declaration of Independence was 45 years old. Benjamin Franklin was the oldest at 70 years old.
