News & Views from Campus: July 2nd – July 8th 2023

-Cottage Community Center Updates: Located at 30D, ALL Cherry Lane & Main Campus Cottagers are welcome to utilize & attend! Puzzles ranging from 250-2000 pieces as well as a mini-library are available for use or check out! This week Canasta at 1pm on Wednesday July 5th. Coffee Hour at 10am, Thursday July 6th with guest speaker Jeannie McLeod, CEO & Administrator for Good Samaritan! Dominoes at 1pm on Saturday, July 8th!

-Catch High Stakes on the High Seas with Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks on Wednesday at 1pm! Hanks plays a containership captain who tries to protect his crew and vessel against Somali Pirates trying to hijack the ship. The movie was nominated for 6 Academy Awards & was voted one of the ten best movies of 2013!

-Celebrate America on July 4th with Hidden Figures, a biographical drama that tellsthe untold story of the black women at Nasa who helped America win the space race.

On July 4th, 1776, late in the afternoon, the 13 Colonies voted 9-2 in favor of adopting the Declaration of Independence (Delaware and New York abstained). It is said John Hancock signed his name “with a great flourish…so England’s King George can read it without his spectacles!” Stars & Stripes forever!                               -Nathan
