July 18th, 1940 – Franklin D. Roosevelt is nominated for an unprecedented 3rd term. He would go on be elected to a 4th term as well, the only President to serve more than two.
July 19th, 1943 – The United States bombs railway yards in Rome, Italy, in an attempt to break the will of the Italians.
July 20th, 1969 – “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Neil Armstrong walks on the moon.
July 21st, 1899 – Ernest Hemmingway, one of the most influential American writers ever, is born in Oak Park, Illinois.
July 22nd, 2003 – Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday & Qusay are killed after a 3-hour firefight with U.S. Forces in the Iraqi city of Mosul.
July 23rd, 1996 – “The Magnificent 7”, the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team, takes home Gold at the Summer Games in Atlanta, our first Gold Medal in gymnastics.
July 24th, 1847 – Brigham Young along with 148 Mormon pioneers reaches Utah’s Valley of the Great Salt Lake, after a 17-month trek beginning in Nauvoo, IL.
