On This Day In History…

July 18^th, 1940 – Franklin D. Roosevelt is nominated for an unprecedented 3^rd term. He would go on be elected to a 4^th term as well, the only President to serve more than two.

July 19^th, 1943 – The United States bombs railway yards in Rome, Italy, in an attempt to break the will of the Italians.  

July 20^th, 1969 – “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Neil Armstrong walks on the moon.  

July 21^st, 1899 – Ernest Hemmingway, one of the most influential American writers ever, is born in Oak Park, Illinois.  

July 22^nd, 2003 – Former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s sons Uday & Qusay are killed after a 3-hour firefight with U.S. Forces in the Iraqi city of Mosul.  

July 23^rd, 1996 – “The Magnificent 7”, the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team, takes home Gold at the Summer Games in Atlanta, our first Gold Medal in gymnastics.  

July 24^th, 1847 – Brigham Young along with 148 Mormon pioneers reaches Utah’s Valley of the Great Salt Lake, after a 17-month trek beginning in Nauvoo, IL.

The wait is over, the 2021 Olympics are here! While enjoying breakfast on Friday, July 23^rd, watch the opening ceremonies live from Tokyo from 6am to 10am on NBC, Channel 4! Throughout the games (July 23-August 8) you can play Olympic Bingo! Get your Bingo card from your local Activity Aide the morning of Friday, July 23^rd and cheer on Team USA!
