Factoids From This Week In History!

July 11th, 1804 – In one of the most famous duels in American history, Vice President Aaron Burr fatally wounds Alexander Hamilton.

July 12th, 1861 – “Wild” Bill Hickok begins to establish his reputation as a gunfighter, slaying 3 men in a shootout in Nebraska. He was born in (Homer) Troy Grove, Illinois.

July 13th, 1985 – Live Aid, a worldwide rock concert, opens at Wembley Stadium in London. The 16-hour super concert raises $127 million for famine-stricken Africans.

July 14th, 1789 – The French Revolution begins as troops & angry Parisians storm The Bastille, a royal fortress-prison.

July 15th, 1903 – The newly formed Ford Motor Co. takes its first order, an $850 two-cylinder Model A, from Chicago dentist Ernest Pfenning.

July 16th, 1969 – Apollo 11, the first U.S. lunar landing mission, is launched. It traveled 240,000 miles in 76 hours.  

July 17th, 1955 – Disneyland, a metropolis of nostalgia, futurism & fantasy, opens in Anaheim, California.
