  Olympic History Edition Vol. 2!

-The United States made their Summer Olympic Debut in Athens, Greece in 1896, and their Winter Olympic debut in Chamonix, France in 1924.

-For the 2021 Tokyo games, the U.S. youngest athlete is 15-year-old swimmer Katie Grimes, while our oldest athlete is 57-year-old Phillip Dutton, who competes in equestrian!

St. Louis, Mo. was the first U.S city to host the Olympics, way back in 1904. Chicago had originally been awarded the games, but organizers felt the Worlds Fair in St. Louis would draw too many, so the games were moved!

-Mary Lou Retton, dubbed “America’s Sweetheart”, made history as the first American gymnast to win Gold in the women’s all-around program in Los Angeles in 1984.

-The first ancient Olympics held in Greece consisted of events such as different lengths of running, wrestling, boxing, the pentathlon, and chariot racing!

-Gold, Silver, and Bronze? Not quite. Ancient first place winners in Olympic events were awarded wreaths made from the leaves of the sacred olive trees at Olympia, and “Odes”, dedicated & written about them by famous poets!

Prayer Request & Scripture

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK

John 7:16-17

So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but God’s, Him who sent me. If any person would truly desire to do His Will, he or she will come to realize whether my teaching is from God of if I am declaring things I made up on my own.”
