News & Views from Campus: April 3rd – April 9th
This and That…
-Baseball season is upon us! Opening Day is set for April 7th, with the Cubs hosting the Brewers at 1:20 and the Cards hosting Pittsburgh at 3:15. The Cardinals are projected to finish 2nd in the National League Central this year, while the Cubs were picked 3rd. Albert Pujols is back with the Cardinals, and the National League will now employ the Designated Hitter, which the American League adopted in 1973, meaning pitchers will no longer have at-bats. It was a nearly 50-year quirk that held between the two leagues, but should help bolster the offensive numbers in the N.L.
-Titan International (formerly Titan Wheel) sold their Australian wheel business to OTR Tyres for nearly 23 million dollars. Titan employs 7,500 people worldwide, and 1,200 here in Quincy. Their local roots stretch back nearly 120 years to the Electric Wheel Company of Quincy. They manufacture wheels and tires for offroad vehicles including farming, construction, forestry, and mining equipment.
Happy Birthday
