Remembering All of our Men & Women who fought & died for Our Great Nation

Memorial Day as we know it actually began as Decoration Day back in May of 1868. Civil War Veterans designated it for the purpose of decorating the graves of fallen comrades who died in defense of their country. General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, and Over 5,000 Participants decorated the graves of over 20,000 Union Civil War veterans. Southern States celebrated their fallen soldiers as well on other days in May, but Memorial Day became a federal Holiday, uniformly observed by everyone in 1968, establishing the last Monday in May as the official date. – History.com
