May 16th, 1986 – The blockbuster film “Top Gun”, directed by Tony Scott and starring Tom Cruise, premieres.

May 17th, 1970 – The radio quiz show “Information Please!’ debuts on the NBC Blue Network.

May 18th, 1969 – Apollo 10 launches from The Kennedy Space Center and later transmits the 1st color pictures of Earth from space.

May 19th, 1977 – The film “Smokey & the Bandit” starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jackie Gleason premieres in New York City.

May 20th, 1932 – Amelia Earhart leaves Newfoundland on her journey to become the 1st woman to fly solo and nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean.

May 21st, 1999 – All My Children star Susan Lucci finally wins a daytime Emmy after being nominated 19 times, the longest period of unsuccessful nominations in TV history.   

May 22nd, 1956 – This day signals the end of an era as “The Bob Hope Show” airs for the last time ever on NBC.
