United States Olympic History Edition!
-The United States has sent athletes to every modern Olympic games, with the exception of the 1980 Summer Olympics, which were boycotted due to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
-American athletes have won a total of 2,523 medals in the summer games, and another 305 at the winter games, which ranks first all-time by a large margin.
-The 1980 hockey game between the USA & the USSR, dubbed “The Miracle On Ice”, is regarded as one of the biggest Olympic upsets of all time, as the American team, consisting only of college players, upset the heavily favored Soviets en route to the 1980 Gold Medal.
–The 1992 US Men’s Basketball Team, dubbed “The Dream Team”, is considered to be the greatest sports team ever assembled. Led by Michael Jordan, they defeated opponents by an average of 44 points and claimed Gold by defeating Croatia in the finals.
-Swimmer Michael Phelps is the most decorated U.S. athlete of all time, capturing 28 medals (23 being gold) over 5 Olympic games from 2000 to 2016.
